South-South exchange activity:  Médenine (Tunisia), 10-12 December 2015

Field Workshops concerning agronomic and South-South Experience exchange have been held in Tunisia involving 27 people (19 Tunisian and Algerian farmers, 4 middle managers from Algeria, 2 executives from OSS and 3 from IRA). The workshop consisted of field visits, Power Point Presentations and discussions on actions implemented in each target site. The workshop focused on irrigation management using salt water through the distribution of irrigation sheets developed and made available to participants. It was the opportunity to compare the results of the sites where the project activities were implemented to those irrigated following farmer method. Effective improvement of irrigation management was shown to farmers while all the participants were shown the possibility to replicate the water management techniques in other sites. Discussion between Megarine and Biskra’s farmers focused on the availability of water and hence the possibility of introducing annual crops of short duration which require less water, the introduction of drip system Underground (diffuser) for fruit species allowing more efficient use of water and soil salinity control especially in the absence of artificial drainage system.
